On two wheels from Budapest
You can cycle all the way from the capital to Balatonfüred on a designated bike route – but this requires covering more than 150 kilometres along the EuroVelo 14. From Budapest to the shores of Lake Balaton, you’ll ride approximately 120 kilometres following the BuBa (Budapest-Balaton) route. Then, by continuing on the northern section of the Balaton Cycling Loop for another 35 kilometres, you’ll reach the conference venue in Balatonfüred.
Budapest is easily accessible by train, from where you can also continue your journey by bike. The BuBa route, inaugurated in 2022, leaves the agglomeration at Biatorbágy and climbs through the vineyards of the Etyek wine region before reaching Lake Velence. For those planning a two-day ride, there are plenty of accommodation options around the lake. However, if you’re only stopping for a short break, taking some time to relax at the Velence beach is well worth it. The journey continues through the historic city of Székesfehérvár, with just one final climb between Szabadbattyán and Füle before reaching the shores of Lake Balaton. At Balatonakarattya, you can admire the stunning high shore before turning right and leaving the hills behind for good. From here, a final two-hour ride brings you to the Balatonfüred Congress Centre.

Approaching from Vienna via Győr
Follow the EuroVelo 6 route along the Danube until you reach Győr. It’s worth cycling on the version south of the Danube, so you won’t have any problems crossing the river. From Győr, head south along Cycling Route 24, passing through Nyúl and Pannonhalma. As you ascend into the Bakony Hills, a stop in Zirc is highly recommended to visit the abbey and arboretum. The next stop is Veszprém, from where you can choose between two routes to continue. Staying on Route 24 takes you through Tótvázsony with views of the Balaton Uplands. Alternatively, you can reach Lake Balaton at Balatonalmádi and follow the Balaton Loop to the Balatonfüred Congress Centre.
Arriving from the southeast
From South Austria (Graz) and Slovenia, EuroVelo 14 routes will lead to the conference venue. The route enters Hungary at Szentgotthárd and will first take you through the hilly landscapes of the Őrség. From there, it continues across the Vasi-Hegyhát area then heads straight for Lake Balaton, reaching it at Keszthely. The final stretch follows the Balaton Loop for about 70 km with minimal elevation changes to the conference venue.
